UBC Farm Irrigation Replacement to begin September 15
Posted on:
September 3, 2025
Anticipated construction dates: September 15–19
What’s happening
Existing irrigation lines on the UBC Farm are aging and prone to leaking, leading to loss of potable water and degradation of arable land. To improve efficiencies on the Farm, new high-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) lines will be installed next to the existing lines and will include new fittings for ease of use.
What to expect during construction
- Open trenches will be dug in various areas around UBC Farm. These open trenches are a potential fall hazard, please watch where you step and use caution.
- Heavy equipment and vehicles, similar to farm vehicles, will be travelling along roads and pathways on the farm.
- New irrigation materials may temporarily be stored at the north end of the fields, close to the Harvest Hut/Farm entrance.
- Irrigation shutdowns will be coordinated in advance with the Farm Manager.
