Routine Capital Program: Managing deferred maintenance and infrastructure renewal

UBC Facilities’ Capital Planning & Development oversees UBC’s Routine Capital Program, which is jointly funded by the Government of British Columbia and UBC. The program focuses on projects that address deferred maintenance needs in existing Core Academic Facilities and related supporting infrastructure.

Routine Capital Program criteria

To qualify as a Routine Capital project, the proposed project must align with the Capital Asset Reference Guide, which includes the following base criteria:

  1. Is the project for an existing asset (not new construction)?
  2. Is the project in a Core Facility or Linear Infrastructure?
  3. Does the project address an asset that is End of Life, have failing building components, life safety risks, or accessibility requirements?

If these base criteria are met, the request will be assessed against other priorities. Capital Planning & Development will develop a prioritized list of proposed projects and then guide them through the approval and amendment process at UBC and with the province.
