Construction has begun on the Roof and Interior Renovation – Leon and Thea Koerner University Centre
Posted on:
December 9, 2025
Estimated construction dates: November 2025 – April 2026
This construction project will renovate the north roof terrace at level 3 and the interior spaces at level 3 of the UBC Leon and Thea Koerner University Centre.
This includes an internal renovation to the Level 3 west side office and washroom areas along with upgrades to the exterior roof top terrace on the north side. See the map below for affected spaces: rooms 307, 309, 314, access corridor (310), and the adjacent washrooms (rooms 308 and 312) as well as the level 3 north roof terrace.

Here’s what to expect during construction
- Occupants in the Leon and Thea Koerner University Centre should expect noise from ongoing construction activities. All efforts will be made to keep the disruption to a minimum.
- A laydown area will be established near the building to accommodate material delivery, waste removal and construction vehicles. There will be an external scaffold for general access to the terrace as well as weather protection for the terrace roof renewal work.
- To accommodate the work, some HVAC and other mechanical and electrical systems will need to be shut down for short periods with minimal downtime expected to allow regular building functions to continue during normal hours.
