Director, Energy & Water Services

Siu is the Acting Managing Director for Energy & Water Services while Facilities recruit for the permanent replacement for the position. As the Director for Engineering and Utilities management, the division delivers utility services to all UBC academic buildings, student housing, athletics buildings, the UBC hospital, commercial tenants and residential communities across the Vancouver campus. Siu provides strategic direction to the division and manages UBC’s commodities, operations and maintenance budgets for the delivery of high voltagedistrict energy (steam and hot water)natural gas and water system services, sanitary and storm.

With hundreds of miles of utility infrastructure on UBC’s 1,000 acre campus, Siu leads a team of professional engineers and technologists to plan and implement cyclical maintenance and renewal programs for existing utility infrastructure. The team also looks after the planning and construction of new utility infrastructure, to meet UBC’s growth and expansion needs. Siu also manages an operational group comprised of Chief Engineers and Power Engineers to operate and maintain the University’s Campus Energy Centre and the Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility (BRDF), now undergoing expansion.

Siu is a Professional Engineer, whose degrees include a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Water Resources.
