Project Summary

The GE Jenbacher engine has been installed to provide the Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility on Lower Mall with additional thermal capacity and fuel diversification.

Sustainable features

The new engine allows UBC to:

  • Reduce electrical demand by 1.5 megawatts
  • Produce 7.5% of the electricity on the Vancouver campus
  • Reduce carbon dioxide emissions equal to taking 42 cars off the road
  • Increase UBC’s thermal capacity – the same as heating an extra 750+ households per year
