Educating young children on solid waste collection on campus

The Waste Management team in Municipal Services recently paid a visit to the Berwick Child Development Centre to educate young children about the vehicles and equipment used for solid waste collection on the UBC Vancouver campus. The team demonstrated how waste is collected and handled by the vehicles and shared information on the number of bins and dumpsters that the Waste Management team services daily.

The visit began with a “waste fleet show and tell” where the team showed off their garbage truck, recycling truck and curbside collection vehicle to the children. The kids were beyond thrilled to see the trucks up close and learn about how they work, and remained engaged throughout the visit with many questions about the vehicles.

“It’s great to see young children taking an interest in waste management and learning about what we do,” said a member of the UBC Waste Management team.

The visit to the Berwick daycare was a huge success and UBC Waste Management looks forward to continuing their outreach efforts in the future.
