Regular testing and maintenance lead to quick action in an emergency

In the realm of safety and security, one of the most important measures are functioning fire alarm systems. Fire alarms are the first line of defence against the effects of fire, providing early warning to occupants and enabling swift action to mitigate property damage.

A recent fire that occurred in Buchanan D highlighted the importance of this routine maintenance and our commitment to ensuring safety in our buildings. Building Operations’ proactive preventative maintenance testing of fire alarm systems contributed to a fully operational system when we needed it most, effectively alerting our crews to respond in a timely manner.

The Custodial Service Night Shift team responded to the fire in Buchanan D overnight, and were able to safely and quickly remove large amounts of water from the basement level to help mitigate damage to the facility and the occupants belongings. In addition, thank you to the Building Operations Operating Engineers, Plumbers and Electricians and CSI Facilities Managers who attended the site to respond to the issue.

Thank you to all our teams and crews for the swift response and all those involved in the ongoing testing and maintenance of the fire alarm systems.
