Energizing the future: SHED project wins 2025 SAB Award

The Smart Hydrogen Energy District (SHED) – Hydrogen Generation and Fueling Station won a prestigious 2025 SAB Green Building Award for its excellence in energy innovation and environmental impact. This project is a unique partnership between industry and government to create an innovative living laboratory at a city-block scale, to test and study smart energy solutions with real-world applications. Congratulations to everyone involved in this project, and a special shout out to Aletha Utimati, Project Manager, and Darren Herrington, Project Coordinator in Project Services for their hard work bringing it to life.

SHED, located on UBC’s Vancouver campus, represents a forward-thinking approach to clean energy. The facility’s hydrogen generation and fueling systems provide a sustainable alternative to traditional fuel sources. The project plays a central role in UBC’s broader commitment to sustainability and innovation, contributing to our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and provide a platform for energy engagement and innovation.
