Coal and Mineral Processing Laboratory Renewal begins in May

Coal and Mineral Processing Laboratory – Rooms 200, 204, 206, 208, 210, and 216 

Construction: May 5 – Late August 2025 

Construction is anticipated to begin on May 5 for the Coal and Mineral Processing Laboratory Renewal (Rooms 200, 204, 206, 208, 210, and 216) to upgrade the lightning, flooring, and walls.  

We will refurbish the laboratory rooms and high-bay labs, including upgrading walls and ceilings, refinishing or replacing corroded doors and frames, repairing concrete flooring, and applying a protective epoxy coating to the concrete floors. Additionally, the lighting will be upgraded to LED fixtures, and signage will be updated to suit. This refurbishment will address both cosmetic and structural improvements to ensure the laboratory meets current standards and operational needs. 

What to expect during construction 

  • Some construction noise during door frame demolition and reinstallation, as well as during site mobilization and equipment storage.  
  • Mobilization is scheduled to occur April 15–28 and again between August 5–28 when the equipment returns to the site. 
  • The most significant noise disturbance is anticipated during the chipping of concrete for structural slab repairs, date TBC. A notice will be issued in advance of this work. 
  • Planned temporary shutdowns for electrical systems, sinks, and fume hoods to allow for safe disconnection and reconnection, dates TBC. A notice will be issued in advance of this work. 
  • There will be no access to Rooms 200, 204, 206, 208, 210, and 216 during construction.
