Gilberto holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a designation in Certified Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM). He comes to UBC with over 25 years of experience in materials and logistics management in varying industries ranging from home appliances and steelworks.
Meynardo Villarica promoted to Architectural Sub Head in Building Operations
Meynardo joins the architectural supervisory team with strong carpentry and customer services experience which he refined in his current role as Yellow Zone Carpenter. His carpentry trade background, coupled with his skills and understanding of the restoration process will benefit the architectural trade team well as he brings a fresh perspective to this role.
Curtis Spencer is promoted to Subhead Electrical Maintenance in Building Operations
Curtis joined UBC in February 2017 working on campus street lights before moving to the electrical controls crew where he took on both the green and teal zones. Curtis has vast experience in commercial and industrial settings, and has shown great leadership in how he deals with difficult conversations and complex situations.
New water meter installation on 16th Avenue in the University Endowment Lands (UEL)
The University Endowment Lands will be installing a new water meter on 16th Avenue as part of regular maintenance and upgrades. UBC Facilities will support this work from December 14-17, 2021 by switching over our campus water feed, once the new meter is installed.
Supporting UBC Faculty of Dentistry’s new simulation and digital dentistry laboratory project
Last year, UBC Dentistry announced plans for a new simulation and digital dentistry laboratory that will be transformative for our DMD and DHDP student learning environment providing exposure to state-of-the-art emerging technologies to learn advancing dental clinical procedures. This June, UBC Supply Management & Infrastructure Development awarded the equipment contract for the simulation and digital dentistry laboratory to Planmeca through an open competitive process.
Heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) line near the Bioenergy Facility back in commission
Last week, Energy & Water Services (EWS) steamfitters completed another repair on the District Energy System (DES) network off the Bioenergy Research Facilities (Bioenergy Facility). This repair was needed as this particular heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) line has been out of commission for over a year.

The Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility (BRDF) is burning biomass once again! The Energy & Water Services Thermal Operations Team re-lit the biomass gasification system on November 10, 2021, and the BRDF is now producing renewable thermal energy for the Academic District Energy System (ADES).
A Common Ground: Arts Student Centre Opens its Doors
The Arts Student Centre has officially opened its doors to the UBC community. The three-storey building located on East Mall and Walter Gage Road will be a common meeting ground for Arts students to interact across disciplines, with spaces to connect, collaborate on projects, and host events.
Raymond Lum promoted to Subhead Metal Worker in Building Operations
Raymond has been in the metal shop at UBC for seven years and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in layout, fabricating, assembling, welding and installation. He was a participant in the Expression of Interest (EOI) program and is an advocate for safety by serving as a member of the Trades Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC).
UBC expanding presence in Surrey with $70M land acquisition
UBC is expanding its presence south of the Fraser River with the $70-million purchase of a property in Surrey. The acquisition of the Surrey site supports the achievement of a key commitment in UBC’s strategic plan to work with partners on the development of the university’s regional presence, as well as providing an exciting opportunity to improve access to post-secondary education in the Fraser region.
