Over the past short period, we have faced changes and challenges that none of us would have believed possible. The extraordinary steps and measures that we are taking across UBC to limit the transmission of COVID-19 are essential for the protection of our communities both on campus and throughout the region and province.

Last year, I took a big step and took on the new role of Associate Vice-President, Facilities here at UBC. Now that the Facilities group has been in place for over a year I have decided that one way I could help everyone on our team see what these transitions mean is to start a simple blog series. I plan to write regularly to share my perspective on our team’s great work and occasionally invite guest writers to tell stories from across the Facilities group.

Last month, Infrastructure Development and Equity & Inclusive office hosted three pop-up open house events to engage with UBC students, faculty, and staff to get a better understanding of the range of experiences and concerns regarding washrooms and changing rooms at UBC.

Two new Associate Project Managers join Infrastructure Development with Project Services

Sarah Buck joins UBC from Penfolds Roofing & Solar where she held several positions; starting out as a Project Coordinator and working her way up to a project management position. James Woo joins us from R.F. Binnie & Associates, where he was part of a project delivery team working mainly with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in managing their capital projects.

Since Leigh Clark joined UBC Vancouver as a Facilities Planner with Infrastructure Development just two years ago, she has successfully identified and implemented a solution for keeping redundant furniture out of landfill and putting it to use elsewhere at the university.
