Welcoming Derek Hui as the new Electrical Utilities Manager

Welcome to Derek Hui, P.Eng., FSR-A, our new Electrical Utilities Manager in Energy & Water Services.

Derek will oversee the electrical portion of the critical Energy & Water Services infrastructure. UBC Facilities Energy & Water Services provides electricity, natural gas, thermal energy, water and sewer services to the UBC Vancouver campus. They manage the commodity sales and billings on campus as well as the purchase of commodities from BC Hydro, Fortis Gas, UEL and Metro Vancouver.

Derek brings 14 years of experience in high-voltage electrical distribution, utility coordination, and infrastructure delivery. He has led complex, multi-million-dollar projects across Metro Vancouver, including major initiatives with BC Hydro and large-scale electrical upgrades.

Most recently, as a Senior Associate at Introba Canada, Derek led electrical teams from design through commissioning. Previously, as Manager of Operations and Shareholder at Advanco Electric Ltd., he directed major utility design-build projects, managed field teams, and oversaw operational and financial planning.

A UBC graduate with a B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and currently completing his Executive MBA, Derek combines technical depth with strong operational leadership.
