The Hennings Building Roof Renewal is underway

Estimated construction dates: August 25 – October 31, 2025

Construction on the Hennings Buildings Roof Renewal has begun.

This project will renew the aging Hennings Building roof systems, remove redundant mechanical systems, and complete localized, minimally invasive seismic improvements. The new roofing systems will improve the energy efficiency of the building aligned with sustainability goals, helping to eliminate current and potential leaks into the building, providing protection from the elements.

Here’s what to expect during construction

  • Occupants in the Hennings Building should expect noise from ongoing construction activities. All efforts will be made to keep the disruption to a minimum.
  • Expect short-term crane activity in Volkoff Lane. General access to this route will be maintained.
  • A laydown area will be established next to the building, on the North East corner for an external scaffold, crane access, waste bin and general access for the project.
  • We recommend that windows are kept closed to reduce the effects of roof renewal construction noise and odours entering the interior spaces.
  • To accommodate the work, some HVAC and other mechanical systems will need to be shut down for short periods with minimal downtime expected to allow regular building functions to continue during normal hours.

Work commencing September 15

  • Working on seismic connections outside of classroom hours including weekends to minimize noise and vibration disturbances
  • Installation of new insulation inside certain attic spaces at roof level

Work planned for September 24-26

  • Installation of new roof membrane to raised roof areas on north and south side of the central lightwell roof

Work planned for September 27

  • Installation of new roof system to central lightwell area adjacent to L3 classrooms to continue, working outside of L3 classroom schedule
