Demolition of UBC Power House this summer

This Summer, the UBC Power House will undergo demolition to prepare for the development of the new UBC Sauder School of Business expansion. The stunning 11-storey building will be constructed next to the current Sauder School of Business in the Henry Angus Building and is expected to open in 2026.

Buildings open late during the weekend

UBC is launching a furniture reuse program to help keep as much waste as possible out of the landfill. Led by UBC Facilities’ Infrastructure Development, the Furniture Reuse Program offers gently-loved furniture items at discounted prices right here at the Vancouver campus, helping you save money and support sustainability.

2023 Soft plastic and styrofoam pick-up schedule is available

Did you know that plastic bags (a type of soft plastic) and styrofoam are not currently recyclable at UBC’s sort-it stations? There are several collection points across campus for pickup. If you are generating a significant amount of soft plastic or styrofoam waste, you can participate in our pick-up program.

This holiday season visit MOA before temporary 2023 closure

The upcoming winter holidays present a final opportunity for visitors to explore the Museum of Anthropology at UBC before it closes for much of 2023. This temporary closure is to complete the seismic upgrades of the Great Hall and accomplish other work on the building.

Grab a sweater and prepare for a cooler campus

The temperatures have dropped and winter conditions are coming to our campus. With the cooler weather outside, UBC’s heating energy will go up to compensate. A reminder to bundle up and dress appropriately to stay warm and safe from the winter elements.

Effective November 7, UBC Facilities is implementing the new simplified Custodial Services staffing model to provide all staff with full-time opportunities and facilitate professional development and increased opportunities for improvement. Due to the new staffing model, the Building Service Worker currently serving your area and the rotation on which your building is currently cleaned may change.

Classroom renovation in H.R. MacMillan, Room 360

The existing drop in lounge and study space in H.R. MacMillan, Room 360 is currently undergoing a full conversion to a 160+ student classroom and lecture space.

Power interruption on campus

Last week, a power outage occurred on campus on Thursday, October 13 and Sunday October 16. UBC Facilities attributes the power outage to a cable fault which triggered protection devices. This resulted in several high voltage feeders going down and cutting power to some of the buildings on campus.
