As the temperatures rise, learn how to identify signs and symptoms, the risks related to heat-related illnesses and how to protect yourself by completing the Heat Stress Awareness course. It is important to recognize the signs and symptoms early on so that more serious heat disorders can be prevented.

Streamlining backfills and recruitment for Custodial Services

Custodial Services will be streamlining the process for identifying backfills and facilitating staff moves and recruitment. This change will help facilitate quicker moves of internal staff who are interested in moving to a new shift, and create a quicker turnaround time for hiring and onboarding new staff to backfill vacant assignments.

Larisa Rohana joins Customer Services & Informatics’ EMMS Sustainment team as a System Analyst II

As a System Analyst, Larisa will be working closely with the Facilities team on all items related to Planon, which includes responding to ServiceNow tickets, reviewing/addressing backlog items, and ensuring various technical activities are successfully completed in Planon.

In January 2023, the En’owkin Centre generously gifted UBC Okanagan with an Nsyilxcn name for the former Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation (ICI) Building, currently under construction. Learn more about what the name means and how to pronounce it.

Samuel Akindele joins Municipal Services as Trades 3 Mechanic

Samuel has over 15 years of experience as Heavy Duty Mechanic. He joins UBC most recently from BC Ferries where he worked as Marine Engine Mechanic, and was responsible for Engine Overhauling, Rad Drives, and Pumps.

Enhancing operations and safety: BRDF control room & office renovation

As part of an effort to enhance operations and safety, the Bioenergy Research Demonstration Facility (BRDF) control room and office have recently been renovated. The purpose of this renovation was to modernize the BRDF control room and personnel quarters.

Supporting building users and academic research through air fan system upgrades in the Chemistry Physics Building  

In February, a supply fan at Chemistry A Block in the Chemistry Physics Building suffered a critical failure, resulting in the shutdown of fumehoods directly impacting research. Special thanks to Building Operations, Energy & Water Services, Infrastructure Development, and all across Facilities who were involved with this process.
