Facilities teams are actively responding to any issues affecting our buildings

As temperatures dip and sustain below 0° degrees, Facilities teams are actively responding to any issues affecting our buildings. The sustained sub-zero temperatures this past weekend have led to pipes freezing and causing damage in some of our buildings. Our teams have responded by removing water from affected buildings to minimize damage, investigating and rectifying issues, and are continuing to monitor our systems. The teams are now focused on stabilizing these building systems.

In the coming days, ice and snow are expected, which may continue to present some challenges to building routine cleaning. To ensure all our teams are responding to the removal of snow at building entrances and any new water intrusion events as temperatures fluctuate, many of our staff assigned to building routine cleaning, moving, waste collection, and responding to service requests may be asked to support and respond to weather-related issues/building emergencies. If this occurs, our teams will continue to prioritize washroom cleaning, waste removal, and cleaning of common areas above other areas in our return to a regular routine.

Facilities will continue to respond accordingly to maintain safe access/egress to buildings and to ensure damage to buildings and client operations are minimized.

The safety of the campus community is UBC’s top priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. For emergencies, please call the Service Centre 604-822-2173.
