Project teams are working diligently to minimize impact

Many construction projects have planned for noisy work to be completed during the summer months, however, due to delays in materials and resource shortages, some of the work is continuing into the fall and impacting students, faculty, and staff.

Construction begins on UBC’s Recreation Centre North

Construction is underway on a new recreation centre that will triple the amount of indoor fitness and recreation space at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus. The new facility will feature three gyms, indoor track, and state-of-the-art fitness centre.

Upcoming road closures

Wesbrook Mall upgrades is nearing completion, however, Wesbrook Mall will remain closed from Walter Gage Road to Chancellor Boulevard until September 5. Thunderbird Boulevard will be impacted for the duration of the UBC Hydrogen Hub / Transportation Test Bed project. Imagine UBC returns to campus on September 6, which will result in multiple road closures.

UBC’s Five-Year Capital Plan

Information on UBC’s Five-Year Capital Plan 2023-24 to 2027-28 has been updated. UBC maintains a comprehensive plan for the development and renewal of institutional infrastructure to meet evolving academic needs as well as the needs of our growing campus communities.

A Walk Through Time – Tree of Life project

As part of a public art installation providing an interactive journey through Earth’s 4.5 billion-year history connecting the Pacific Museum of the Earth to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, construction work for the exhibit extension of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum will begin next week.

UBC’s 5-Year Capital Plan approved by UBC Board of Governors

UBC’s 5-Year Capital Plan was recently endorsed in the Board Committee meeting, in advance of submission to the province in July. A number of projects also received approval in the Board Committee meeting on June 29, 2022.

Continuing as one VPFO under Karamjeet Heer and John Metras’ leadership

Starting June 1, Karamjeet Heer will begin serving as the Interim Vice-President, Finance, and John Metras will become the Interim Vice-President, Operations following the departure of Peter Smailes, former Vice-President, Finance & Operations.

Energy & Water Services’ assets and preventative maintenance plans go live in Planon

The Enterprise Maintenance Management System (EMMS) project team within Facilities is pleased to share that Planon Release 4.1, transitioning Energy & Water Services’ (EWS) assets and preventative maintenance plans from BuiltSpaace to Planon is now live. This marks a significant and exciting milestone for the EMMS project and the EWS team.  

University Boulevard bus loop road detours

Due to three projects under construction simultaneously—School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) Building, Gateway Health Building, and a utility steam tunnel repair, the University bus loop will be closed starting April 19 to May 1, 2022. Please plan your route accordingly.
