A Walk Through Time – Tree of Life project

Construction: July 25 to End of September 2022

As part of a public art installation providing an interactive journey through Earth’s 4.5 billion-year history connecting the Pacific Museum of the Earth to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, construction work for the exhibit extension of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum will begin next week.

The museum will be installing a series of rings and bands of illustrated steel plates at the main entrance of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum to display the chronological evolution of organisms on earth and relationships between these organisms.

Temporary main entrance closure (North end)

  • The main entrance on the north end of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum will be closed for construction.
  • The museum remains open and access will be through the south east side of the building.
  • Access to Aquatic Ecosystems Research Laboratory (AERL) will be maintained.

What to expect during construction

  • Concrete removal at the start of the project will generate increased noise around the area. There will be noise from drilling and breaking up of the existing concrete and from concrete trucks coming in and out of the area throughout August.
  • General construction noise around the construction area (use of tools, and moving equipment and materials).
  • A laydown area in the grassed area in the middle of Main Mall will be used for the contractor to access materials and equipment.
