Why are we hiring 20 positions for Auxiliary Building Service Workers?

UBC Vancouver campus is rapidly evolving and we recognize that there are opportunities to improve our service model with Custodial Services. After a comprehensive review in 2018, Custodial Services will be implementing a 3-shift full-time structure to improve our service delivery on campus and provide 24 hours/ day coverage. Weekends will be a 2-shift full-time structure and provide 16 hours/day coverage. The realignment will have a position available for all current full-time and part-time staff.

As part of this transition, Custodial Services will be hiring up to 20 positions for Auxiliary Building Service Workers (6-month term) to align with this reorganization while our teams plan and adjust with the new scheduling structure.

The organizational change will be the initial step towards making UBC’s Custodial Services an industry leader by supporting industries best practices as measured by meeting and/or exceeding Association for Higher Education Facilities Officers (APPA) standards. This change is based on the 2017 APPA review for Building Operations, and in alignment with the VP Finance & Operations strategic plan to make continuous improvements in the way services are provided to the campus community.
