Monitoring UBC’s hot water district energy system for leaks
The Academic District Energy System (ADES) is fitted with a leak detection system which alarms against both hot water and ground water leaks through a protective insulation jacket. The system is monitored 24/7 by the Facilities team and enables the team to respond quickly and address leak repair prior to a catastrophic interruption.

In early June, the UBC Power House will begin preparation for demolition for the development of the new UBC Sauder School of Business expansion. During this project, there will be various levels of disruption and road closures.

German president’s visit to UBC highlights clean energy and climate change solutions
UBC welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday, April 25. During his visit, President Steinmeier toured UBC’s Smart Hydrogen Energy District (SHED) – a soon-to-open hydrogen fuelling station that showcases integrated energy generation for smart cities. Located next to a sub-station at the corner of Wesbrook Mall and Thunderbird Boulevard, the project will transform a city block into a smart-energy district.
Upgrades & renovations in Orchard Commons Room 1001
Orchard Commons Room 1001 is currently undergoing renovation work to create an active learning classroom. The new layout will be a high tech ‘learn lab’, featuring group tables with technology that allows both instructors and students to share their work with the class through digital displays at each table.
