Understanding how operations and maintenance are funded at UBC

Over the past decade, UBC has grown considerably and now is similar to a city or town, in addition to being a university campus. With a dynamic and growing population, UBC Facilities recognizes the need to provide transparency and clarity on how assets and services on the UBC Vancouver campus are funded.

As such, we are pleased to share the 2024 Facilities Service Guide, a comprehensive overview of assets managed, and services provided by UBC Facilities. The Facilities Guide (the guide) is developed to define core funded services versus services that are provided on a cost recovery basis, a schedule of cost recovery charge-out rates, project management rates, and identify specific equipment and systems that are the responsibility of facilities or departments to procure, operate, maintain and replace (e.g., research equipment and associated support systems).

The guide was developed in consultation with select faculty administrators and staff, and key partners at UBC prior to its finalization. The guide is aligned with the UBC Controlled Land, Buildings and Infrastructure (“Space Management”) policy (UP13) and based on similar policies or guides used at other universities in North America.
