A year in review: A look at Custodial Services

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Custodial Services has been playing an important role in keeping spaces in the UBC Vancouver campus clean and safe. As we start the new year, we’d like to share an overview and some facts about Custodial Services and our campus.

Parm Ubhi joins Building Operations as Sub Head Operating Engineer 3rd Class Dayshift

Parm started his career at UBC in Building Operations in 2016, and joined Energy & Water Services to expand his experience and work towards his 3rd Class Power Engineering certification. While he was working on his 3rd Class, he also accepted the responsibility of the shop steward for the IUOE 115 membership.

Jordan Buckshaw joins Project Services Team as Project Manager

Jordan is a Professional Engineer and holds a bachelors in Applied Science Civil Engineering from UBC and a diploma in Building Engineering Technology from BCIT. Jordan’s diverse construction and training experience, strategic oversight and creative problem solving will be an asset to the Project Services team.

MOA: Great Hall renewal project is proceeding

MOA: Great Hall renewal project is proceeding

The Museum of Anthropology (MOA): Great Hall Renewal project is proceeding, and the dismantling of the outer walls of MOA’s Great Hall is starting this week. This work will continue into the Spring 2022, with construction of the new structure and skylight installations starting in the Summer 2022. The project is anticipated to be completed in the Fall 2023.

Sandy Hutchinson promoted to Sub-Head, Stores in Municipals Services

Sandy joined UBC in 2017 as a laborer 3.  During his time with UBC, Sandy has successfully completed the Expression of Interest (EOI) program and has spent the last 2 years performing Sub-Head duties where he has developed strong relationships and provided key technical capabilities to his team.

David Rowswell joins Facilities Information and Inventory Systems as Programmer Analyst in Infrastructure Development

David has worked in multiple roles at UBC. He is joining us on secondment from ITSC (Service Center) where he worked as part of our IT support team. After graduating from UBC with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 2017, he also worked in the Department of Botany.
